What a delight to see this film . . . I spent all my working life in composing rooms. I served a six year apprenticeship as a compositor which started when I left school at 15 in 1959. When I was 21 I was required to leave my place of employment as an apprentice because they could not afford to pay me the £11 per week union basic rate wage. I went on to master the Linotype machine which I operated on the Daily Express Manchester for 21 years before new technology took over and made us redundant. Those were wonderful days and I am proud too have been there.

Hello Ray, I'm so pleased you dropped by. Fantastic to hear your career story and it is nice isn't is to see the skills still in practice today? You should quite rightly be very proud. They are true skills and nice to see them not forgotten. Letterpress is having quite a mini revival at the moment and long may it continue.
